Velux Windows | Lifetime carbon neutral
VELUX are leading the way; striving to be Lifetime Carbon Neutral by 2041.
The VELUX Group has been a well-known name, both commercially and domestically, for nearly 80 years. A limited company, they were founded in 1941 by Villum Kann Rasmussen who started by providing windows for a school in Denmark.
They have always focused on healthy and sustainable homes with energy efficiency and respect for the environment, but are now going to the next level.
This year (2020) they started working with the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) and launched a sustainability strategy called ‘It’s our nature’. It is a 10-year journey in which they plan to pioneer climate and nature action, secure a responsible business, and innovate sustainable products.
In order to achieve this, they will:
- Capture the company’s entire historical carbon footprint, dating back to 1941, through forest conservation projects managed by WWF.
- Reduce future carbon emissions in line with climate science, which is to meet the target of 1.5 degree Celsius for global warming.
Their aim is to become Lifetime Carbon Neutral by their 100-year anniversary in 2041.
By taking the unique approach of joining with WWF, VELUX will be helping to protect and restore forests, as well as provide local communities with sustainable sources of timber and support biodiversity.
“Why? Because the world needs it and it is who we are. It’s simply the right thing to do and and it’s our nature!” The VELUX Group.
“The VELUX Group are the first company in the construction industry to take responsibility for both their past and future carbon emissions providing a new level of transparency that acknowledges an organisations lifetime cost to the natural world, a fantastic way to raise the bar " Pam Barbato
